Summer 2017

It took a few days to detach from the typical hustle and bustle of daily life. I’ve been to the beach a good bit throughout my life, but the beaches were always the boardwalk tourist destinations with people everywhere, neon lights, and the constant smell of popcorn. Outer Banks was almost shocking to me. Everything closed by 8 or 9, and it was just very laid back and almost quiet. Especially toward Corolla. We had heard about the wild horses, and how they just walk along the beach, but it was still shockingly beautiful (majestic?) to see for real. A week went by like nothing, and it was back to the daily grind. I had my first real tan since I was 18, and I returned feeling very philosophical and relaxed. It was a great week.

You’ll see the horses, my wife, my brother-in-law, and the family dogs in the photos. Sorry for the lack of yours truly.

Mary and Brandon

Our first attempt at an engagement shoot was a rainy Saturday in October. I came prepped with umbrellas, and we made the most of the fall day. The leaves were crazy bright, so that sort of saved the day. We scheduled another shoot a while later, and the weather was great. It was awesome and fun. I knew the wedding was in January, so I had this little bit of fear lurking in the back of my brain. I know that WV winters can be crazy or very temperate, and nobody really can bet on either. As the wedding grew close, the forecast looked good, and I was just keeping every digit crossed that I could. The day came, and the weather was actually warm. My lovely wife Michelle did Mary’s lovely makeup, and then assisted me in hustling the newlyweds out into the breezy winter night to grab some couple photos. Michelle’s brain takes over where mine stops. She is highly organized and a fantastic director. Does that make me the actor? The screenwriter? Anyway, we got some lovely photos of the happy couple, and wrangled them back into the car and across town to the venue again for the reception. I had my fingers crossed all day, and we all lucked out. Thanks Mary and Brandon!wvweddingswinterweddingbeautifulcouplewestvirginiaclarksburgdreamy1wvweddingswinterweddingbeautifulcouplewestvirginiaclarksburgdreamy8wvweddingswinterweddingbeautifulcouplewestvirginiaclarksburgdreamy9wvweddingswinterweddingbeautifulcouplewestvirginiaclarksburgdreamy7wvweddingswinterweddingbeautifulcouplewestvirginiaclarksburgdreamy3wvweddingswinterweddingbeautifulcouplewestvirginiaclarksburgdreamy4wvweddingswinterweddingbeautifulcouplewestvirginiaclarksburgdreamy5wvweddingswinterweddingbeautifulcouplewestvirginiaclarksburgdreamy6wvweddingswinterweddingbeautifulcouplewestvirginiaclarksburgdreamy2_DSC8497_DSC8526_DSC8632

Ariel and Ben – a birthday engagement

Luckily the rain held out for most of our session. It was Ben’s birthday, so I really had my fingers crossed. As I drove down to their awesome house, I kept seeing the clouds getting darker and heavier. The last photos we ended up taking were of Ariel and Ben jumping in the pond and kissing. The rain started pouring, and we made our way inside to get dry. Being the amazing hosts (and just about the nicest people), they invited me to stay a while and have steak and delicious trifle with them and their family. I had a great… no make that phenomenal time hanging out. I cannot wait for the wedding. You guys are awesome! ArielAndBen-7ArielAndBen-13ArielAndBen-17ArielAndBen-43ArielAndBen-53ArielAndBen-63ArielAndBen-69

Marnie Stern

Flashback 2013. Morgantown, WV. I made a random decision to go check out Marnie Stern play at 123 Pleasant. I had heard of her, but I wasn’t that familiar with her music or playing. The opening band was great. Marnie was intoxicated, and awesome. She was using an Ibanez Jet King through a blue line Ampeg Gemini. Big, clean, and as weird as expected. Some snide hipster guy asked me who I was shooting for, I replied “myself”, and he replied, “good luck.”

Now Marnie Stern is seen nightly in Fred Armison’s band on the Seth Meyers show. She’s dressed a lot fancier and is less visibly drunk. I’m not a fan of the lighting at the venue this night. It’s usually a lot brighter. I had a lot of trouble with my lens. I’ve not really posted these before, but why not. It was a great show. Marnie-9Marnie-10Marnie-13Marnie-21Marnie-22Marnie-24
